Federal States of New England by DaFreak47 Federal States of New England by DaFreak47
Pretty self explanatory (unless the resolution gets jacked up).

Basically its a "What if Stephen A. Douglas had won the 1860 Presidential Election instead of Abraham Lincoln, resulting in a northern secession?"

I think Northern secession would have been much more likely if John C Breckenridge won the 1860 election. Since he was part of the Southern Democrats who were for spreading slavery walked out on the Democrat convention of 1859.

Well either way I still think it has always been an interesting idea of the north seceding instead of the south.

NJ would not have joined. New Jersey had about 30 slaves when the war started. Its econmy was based on trading with the south at that time.

I'm from Jersey. In 1846 New Jersey freed all male slaves under the age of 21 and female slaves under the age of 25 or something like that. All children of slaves born past 1846 was born free. Owners kept there older slaves so by 1861 there was a handful left. All forms of slavery was banned in New Jersey in 1865.

Hmmm, not sure how that's relevant to why New Jersey wouldnt join New England, but its interesting. But dont worry, the only reason I included it back then was because I considered it a part of New Netherlands along with New York, which I only wanted to be part of New England so that it could take southern Ontario. I gave up on this timeline because I didnt put enough thought into it.

Im not angry, also NJ voted for Douglas in 1860 also another reason y NJ wood probaly stay with the union. NJ might b the "battle ground state" like Virgina was during the real Civil War.

So, in this universe, how did the history of the USA go following secession?
