A reboot of an older idea. These small, simple iPad maps are pretty much all I'll be able to muster up for a while. Sorry 
If I remember correctly, the basics of the timeline are:
-The Republic of Texas ended hostilities with Mexico (either through war or compromise), leaving the USA free to concentrate its efforts on reinforcing its claim on the "Oregon Country".
-President Polk secretly ordered the immediate occupation of all of the "Oregon Country" as far north as 54 40 by the US military.
-The Provincial Government of Oregon, founded by American settlers which split the southern section of the region into 4 districts; Yamhill, Twality, Champoeg, and Clackamas, claimed legal sovereignty over all of Oregon's inhabitants, including settlers of British descent. And when the US military began usurping the land of British settlers and taking the livestock of American settlers with equal compensation, the provincial government called for a convention of the leaders of the local communities.
-While some of the leaders proposed independence, many others preferred compromise and appealed to the British government for diplomatic aid. The British army, having arrived at the eastern border of the HBC's "Columbia District", threatened to attack any American soldiers found on "British soil", bringing the two nations to the brink of war.
-Rather than going to war, the USA and Great Britain agreed to let the people of the "Oregon Country/Columbia District" decide between British or American sovereignty. When the initial referendum occurred, most of the residence refused to pass a vote as the ballet only contained two options; "Annexation to the USA" or "Annexation to British North America". Outrage over this mistake led to a cancellation of the vote until a few months later when "Independence" was then added to the ballet, which won by a small majority.
-The new nation was called the "Columbian Federative Republic" and the capital was located in Oregon City. The districts of Yamhill and Twality, along with the island of Vancouver, were admitted as states of the federal republic, with Champoeg, Clackamas, and New Caledonia becoming federal territories. The nation was under the strong political, economic, and cultural influence of Great Britain and the USA, recieving most of its immigrants from the latter.
-At the same time as Columbia was gaining its independence, the small population of Americans living in northwestern Mexico was also fighting for its independence as the "California Republic". Fearing Mexican invasion, the republic sent a delegate to Oregon City, who agreed to aid California in its fight for independence and facilitate its annexation to the federative republic.
-Unable to defeat Mexico on its own, Columbia allied with Texas, which had renewed its hostilities with Mexico in aid of its older ally, Central America. Together, the republics defeated the Mexican military and the Alta and Baja California territories were annexed by Columbia. The northwestern corner of this territory was admitted as a state, "Sonoma".
-Other territories that were soon created to better govern Columbia's growing population include; Kootenay, Idaho, Nevada, and Colorado.
